AMAZING SKYSCRAPPERS

From the record-breaking spires of Dubai's Burj Khalifa to the unusual shape of Spain's Torre Agbar, the world's skyscrapers are not only wonders of design but also often quite symbolic of a country's political and economic stature.
Below are 10 of SOME of the world's most amazing skyscrapers. Feel free to add what I've overlooked..

Swiss Re Building, England

London's 40-story Swiss Re Building is also known as 30 St Mary Axe, or, if you prefer a more colorful nickname, the "Gherkin," which was given in response to its appearance.

Shanghai World Financial Center, China

The most distinctive feature in the design of the 101-floor Shanghai World Financial Center is an aperture at the peak.

Aqua Building, U.S.

Designed by Jeanne Gang, Chicago's 86-story Aqua Building is the largest project ever awarded to an American firm headed by a woman.

Eureka Tower, Australia

Melbourne's 975-ft Eureka Tower has 24 carat (100%) gold plated glass windows on the top 10 floors of the building.

Petronas Towers, Malaysia

The 88-floor Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur remain the tallest twin buildings in the world, though their record-breaking height was surpassed in 2004 by Taipei 101.

Burj Khalifa, United Arab Emirates

At 2,717 feet tall, Dubai's Burj Khalifa is the tallest man-made structure ever built.

Torre Agbar, Spain

According to architect Jean Nouvel, Barcelona's 38-story Torre Agbar was inspired by Montserrat, a mountain near Barcelona, and by the shape of a geyser rising into the air.

 Taipei 101, Taiwan

In 2010, officials proposed a plan that would expand on the Taipei 101 (which, appropriately, has 101 floors) to add five additional floors by 2012.
